More Distribution Opportunities For Indie Networks?

One possible benefit of a Comcast-NBCU deal may be increased fairly negitiated distribution on Comcast cable systems. As part of the effort to secure regulatory approval, Comcast will likely want to both state and act on commitments to negotiate distribution for neew and remaining independnet networks without an eqity quid-pro-quo echange.

When much of the regulatory scrutiny will focus on the aggregated power of content creation and distribution and how the proposed JV will act in the marketplace, a promise and commitment to launch new networks through tough, but fair, negiotiations can be a key element of government approval.

New Measure of New Media

The story of IMMI's new survey results on how consumers are consuming and accessing content show that new platforms, whether online or mobile, are increasingly becoming regular parts of our multimedia lives.

In relating these findings to the Comcast-NBCU proposed venture, the significance of amassing content for multi-platform distribution, promotion and branding is clear. With more consumers using more devices to access content, the power of leveraging brand and quantity, and adapt content o the specfic needs and strengths of individual platforms is key to the success not only of the Comcast-NBCU deal, but for any content owner/distributor.
